Working language: English
Honorable delegates of the First Committee!
I am so glad to greet you as a part of Moscow International Model UN 2017. Every year we do our best to impress you and always strive to improve more and more for you. So I hope that participating in MIMUN is always pleasant for you and this time will not be an exception. MUNs became more than just “games” for many delegates all over the world, so if it is your first model, I wish you would enjoy it as much as we do, and if you already are an experienced delegate – welcome back!
This year in the 1st GA committee we are going to discuss mines and mine actions. One of the UN objectives is to prevent warring parties from using mines as a weapon which can affect civilians and to encourage countries to clear affected areas within their borders. Armament control is an essential aspect of international humanitarian law, so I expect a high level of discussion and plenty of involvement in our topic which is directly related to saving lives of innocents and establishing world peace. It is not an easy challenge, but world’s problems which reach the UN agenda are never simple. But it doesn’t mean we should give up trying to solve them.
Good luck and see you in April!
General Assembly First Committee Vice-chairperson,
As the expert of the First Committee of The General Assembly, I am happy to welcome you to Moscow International Model United Nations 2017!

Our present agenda is of the great significance as it is closely connected to the current situation in the international atmosphere. It may be said without exaggeration that mine action nowadays saves lives of millions of people and is a prerequisite for humanitarian action.
So if you are ready to try hard to seek out solutions to the challenges in the international security and in the right to life – it is your opportunity to change the world right here, right now!
Looking forward to seeing you in Disarmament and International Security Committee in April 2017!
